December 28, 2015 Board Minutes
The Board of Directors of SDAB met via conference call on Monday, December 28, 2015. All members were present except Doug Puetz and Casey Trowbridge. President Dave Miller called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
A motion seconded and carried to approve the agenda as amended.
A motion seconded and carried to approve the minutes from the August 24th meeting.
Steve Hart then gave the treasurer’s report including totals in checking and savings/scholarship accounts. CD’s are stable and our investment has increased a bit. A motion seconded and carried to approve this report. Please contact the treasurer for details.
The next topic was the Disability Awareness day at the capitol, February 10. Amy Chappelle volunteered to represent SDAB for this event, handing out brochures and talking with legislators and those in attendance.
As for membership, Mary reported 30 people registered. She stated she would send out letters to those who had not paid dues. Mary has received information from Sharon Lovering in the ACB National office regarding the Affiliate Membership Management System (AMMS) program class for low vision. This system will enhance communicationand keep us up to date with membership for ACB.
The next topic was representation on the Disability Advocacy Network, (DAN). Dave has been filling this spot in the past, meeting via DDN conference approximately every two weeks during legislative session related to disability issues. Lerae and Dawn will serve as contacts and attend the meetings.
The next topic was committee suggestions/assignments. Specific committee assignments are not listed in these minutes.
Next was a discussion of the SDAB website. Dave does not have the password that was originally used. He is working with another friend regarding this matter so that the website may be updated.
The next topic was a brief discussion of attendance at the ACB national convention in Minneapolis. It is hoped that SDAB will have a good representation this year.
Regarding the 2016 state convention, Dawn is looking at either the second or third weekend in September in Aberdeen.
The board sends condolences to Stephanie and Reed Schlattman, Linda and Tom Biffert’s daughter and son-in-law, on the loss of their 5-month-old son, the Bifferts’ grandson, in early December.
Koni and Chelle shared about the upcoming project of the Siouxland chapter for BrailleLiteracy Month at the downtown Library in Sioux Falls. This will include a month-long display and a braille demonstration by chapter members on January 16th.
Mary mentioned the upcoming Summer Reading Program at the Braille and Talkingbook Library, and the possibility of SDAB receiving a letter requesting a donation to help with this program. A motion seconded and carried to give an amount up to $150.00.
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
